Story

Our Story & Why We’re Expanding

Three years ago, Mini Bakeries (Nairobi) Ltd opened its doors as a modest neighborhood bakery with a simple promise: real, artisan sourdough bread, handcrafted pastries, and specialty coffees made fresh daily using locally sourced ingredients. What started as a passion project with a single deck oven and two bakers quickly transformed into a bustling community hub.

Today, our Kisii location is operating at 100% capacity! Over the past 18 months, weekday morning queues consistently stretch out the door, and our signature sourdough loaves and cardamom knots regularly sell out before 11:00 AM.

More importantly, nearly 35% of our daily patrons and wholesale coffee-shop buyers travel to us from neighboring Kilimani—constantly asking when we will bring Sweet Oven closer to their homes and offices. We turn away catering requests every single weekend simply because our current 40-square-meter kitchen cannot keep up with demand. Expanding to a second location isn't just a dream—it's the natural next step to serve our loyal community.

The Expansion Plan: Kilimani Branch

We have secured a prime commercial space along Argwings Kodhek Road in Kilimani. This strategic location offers high foot traffic, proximity to residential complexes and corporate offices, and enough space for both an expanded production kitchen and a cozy 15-seat café area.

The new branch will double our daily baking production, allowing us to serve walk-in customers while acting as a dedicated hub for corporate breakfast orders and local delivery services across Kilimani, Hurlingham, and Kileleshwa.

How Funds Will Be Used (KSh 850,000 Target)

We are self-funding the initial lease security deposits and architectural design, but we need your help to purchase equipment, outfit the shop, and hire staff. Here is where every shilling goes:

  • Commercial Baking Equipment (KSh 380,000): Double-deck commercial oven, 40L spiral dough mixer, and stainless steel proofing tables.

  • Shop Fit-out & Prep (KSh 220,000): Interior counter setup, plumbing, heavy-duty electrical wiring for ovens, and signage.

  • Initial Inventory & Supplies (KSh 130,000): Bulk organic flour, specialty butter, packaging, coffee beans, and baking tins.

  • Staff Recruitment & Training (KSh 80,000): Hiring and onboarding 2 junior bakers and 2 front-of-house baristas.

  • Licensing & Permits (KSh 40,000): County business permit, food hygiene certification, and fire safety clearance.

Timeline to Grand Opening

  • Weeks 1–2: Finalize lease agreements and complete electrical/plumbing fit-outs.

  • Weeks 3–4: Delivery & installation of baking machinery; initial health inspection audits.

  • Weeks 5–6: Onboarding and menu training for new staff; bulk inventory sourcing.

  • Week 7: Soft launch (exclusive trial run for campaign backers).

  • Week 8: Official Grand Opening for the public in Kilimani!

Community Impact

Thank you so much for backing our dream and bringing the aroma of fresh, handcrafted bread to Kilimani! Please share this campaign with your family and friends!
