Story

Every harvest season, thousands of tonnes of fresh produce leave farms across Nigeria with enormous potential to feed families and generate income. Unfortunately, a significant percentage never reaches consumers in good condition. Fruits spoil before arriving at the market, vegetables lose their freshness during transportation, and farmers are often forced to sell produce below cost simply because they lack access to timely market information and efficient logistics. This problem affects not only farmers but also food retailers, restaurants, wholesalers, and ultimately every household that depends on affordable food.

HarvestLink AgriTech Solutions was created to address this challenge through technology. We are building a digital platform that connects farmers, produce buyers, transport providers, warehouses, and food processors within one integrated ecosystem. By combining mobile technology, real-time pricing information, inventory management, logistics coordination, and digital payment tools, we aim to reduce post-harvest losses while helping farmers earn fairer prices for their produce.

I am Amina Bello, and my connection to agriculture began long before I became a technology entrepreneur. I grew up in a farming family where seasonal harvests determined our financial stability. I watched hardworking farmers produce excellent crops, only to lose a large portion of their income because there were too few buyers, unreliable transportation, or insufficient storage facilities. Years later, after studying Computer Science and working in software development, I realized that many of these challenges could be addressed through practical digital solutions rather than expensive infrastructure alone.

Three years ago, I left a comfortable position in the technology sector and assembled a small team of software developers, agricultural advisers, and logistics professionals to begin developing HarvestLink. We spent months travelling to farming communities, interviewing cooperative societies, produce traders, transport operators, warehouse owners, and agricultural extension officers. Instead of designing software from an office, we wanted every feature to solve a real problem experienced by the people who would eventually use it.

Our first pilot programme connected vegetable farmers with wholesalers through a simple mobile application. Farmers could publish available produce, buyers could place orders directly, and transport providers received delivery requests through the same platform. Even with a relatively small pilot, the results exceeded our expectations. Farmers reported faster sales, buyers spent less time searching for suppliers, and transport operators reduced empty return trips because they received more consistent delivery requests.

Since then, HarvestLink has continued to evolve. We have introduced inventory management tools, digital payment integration, delivery scheduling, market price updates, customer analytics, and farmer verification systems that improve trust between buyers and sellers. Several farming cooperatives now rely on our platform to coordinate produce collection, while restaurants and retailers use HarvestLink to source fresh agricultural products directly from verified suppliers.

One of the most rewarding moments came when a tomato farmer told us she no longer needed to rely entirely on middlemen to sell her harvest. Instead, she could negotiate directly with multiple buyers through our platform while arranging transportation without leaving her community. Stories like hers remind us that technology becomes meaningful only when it improves people's daily lives in practical ways.

Although our software platform has gained encouraging traction, one important limitation remains. Much of our logistics monitoring and produce verification process still depends on rented equipment and third-party service providers. Expanding nationally requires specialised equipment that allows our field teams to inspect produce quality, monitor storage conditions, demonstrate our technology in rural communities, and provide reliable technical support to farmers across multiple states.

We have carefully evaluated our operational needs alongside agricultural experts, supply chain consultants, and technology advisers. Rather than investing heavily in office space, we believe purchasing specialised field equipment will generate the greatest impact by improving service quality, increasing operational efficiency, and enabling our team to support significantly more farmers throughout Nigeria.

We are seeking ₦42,000,000 to purchase essential equipment that will strengthen HarvestLink's technology infrastructure, field operations, and agricultural support services. Every naira raised through this campaign will be invested directly into equipment that helps farmers reduce losses, access better markets, and improve their long-term profitability.

The funds raised through this campaign will be used for the following:

  • Purchase field vehicles that enable our technical teams to reach farming communities efficiently and provide on-site implementation and customer support.

  • Acquire rugged tablets, mobile devices, GPS equipment, and data collection tools used for farmer registration, produce verification, and field operations.

  • Purchase portable produce quality assessment equipment and environmental monitoring devices that help maintain food quality throughout the supply chain.

  • Invest in servers, networking equipment, backup systems, and cybersecurity hardware that strengthen the reliability and security of our technology platform.

  • Equip mobile demonstration centres that allow us to train farming cooperatives, produce buyers, and logistics providers across rural communities.

  • Recruit additional field support specialists, agricultural technology officers, implementation consultants, and technical maintenance personnel to support our expanding operations.

  • Purchase backup power systems and communications equipment that ensure uninterrupted operations in remote locations with limited infrastructure.

This investment will allow HarvestLink AgriTech Solutions to serve significantly more farming communities while improving food supply chains across Nigeria. Better equipment means faster implementation, stronger technical support, improved produce quality monitoring, and greater confidence among farmers and commercial buyers who depend on our platform every day. As more agricultural businesses adopt digital tools, they become better positioned to reduce waste, increase productivity, and improve food security nationwide.

Our vision extends far beyond building another technology company. We want HarvestLink to become the digital infrastructure that strengthens relationships between farmers, buyers, transport providers, processors, and consumers throughout Africa. Every successful harvest should create opportunity rather than uncertainty, and every hardworking farmer deserves access to modern technology that supports sustainable business growth.

The journey has required persistence, continuous learning, and unwavering belief that practical innovation can solve longstanding agricultural challenges. We are proud of what our team has accomplished with limited resources, but we know the greatest impact still lies ahead. With the right equipment and continued community support, we can expand our reach while creating lasting value for thousands of agricultural businesses.

Your support is much more than funding equipment purchases. You are investing in smarter agriculture, stronger rural economies, food security, technological innovation, and the hardworking farmers whose efforts feed millions of people every day. Together, we can build a more connected, efficient, and sustainable agricultural future for Nigeria.

On behalf of our software engineers, agricultural advisers, logistics partners, farming communities, employees, and families, thank you for taking the time to read our story. We sincerely appreciate your confidence, your encouragement, and your support. We would be honoured to have you join us as we continue building HarvestLink AgriTech Solutions.
