EduBridge Skills Academy
Story
Every graduation season tells the same story. Thousands of young people proudly receive certificates and diplomas, full of hope for the future, only to discover that employers are looking for practical skills they never had the opportunity to develop. Many talented graduates spend months or even years searching for employment, not because they lack determination, but because they have had limited access to industry-focused training that prepares them for today's workplace.
Watching this challenge unfold year after year inspired the creation of EduBridge Skills Academy. What began as a handful of weekend computer classes conducted inside a rented classroom has gradually grown into a respected training centre offering practical programmes in digital literacy, business administration, customer service, bookkeeping, entrepreneurship, office productivity software, and career development. Our goal has never been simply to issue certificates. We exist to equip people with practical skills that improve their confidence, increase their employability, and create opportunities for entrepreneurship.
I am Precious Ndlovu, the founder of EduBridge Skills Academy, and education has shaped every chapter of my own life. Before establishing the academy, I worked for several years as a corporate trainer, travelling throughout Zimbabwe delivering workplace development programmes for businesses and nonprofit organisations. During those years, I repeatedly met capable young people who possessed strong academic knowledge but lacked practical workplace experience. Employers often invested months retraining new employees because graduates had not been exposed to the software, communication skills, and professional practices expected in modern workplaces.
Those conversations motivated me to establish a training institution that focused on practical outcomes rather than theory alone. Seven years ago, I rented two classrooms, purchased a small number of second-hand desktop computers, and began teaching evening classes after regular working hours. During the early days, I served as instructor, administrator, marketing manager, admissions officer, cleaner, and technical support specialist all at once. Every student who enrolled represented another opportunity to prove that affordable, high-quality vocational education could genuinely transform lives.
Building trust within the education sector required patience. Many prospective students had previously enrolled in expensive training programmes that failed to deliver meaningful employment opportunities. Instead of making unrealistic promises, we focused on providing excellent instruction, maintaining small class sizes, updating our curriculum regularly, and inviting experienced professionals to mentor our students. As graduates began securing jobs and launching businesses, word spread through referrals, and our student population steadily increased.
Today, EduBridge Skills Academy welcomes school leavers, university graduates, entrepreneurs, working professionals, and individuals seeking career changes. Our classrooms have become places where ambition meets opportunity. Students arrive with different backgrounds and aspirations, but they all share one common goal—to improve their future through practical education. Many of our graduates have secured employment in banks, retail companies, logistics firms, healthcare organisations, schools, and technology businesses, while others have started successful small enterprises using the knowledge they acquired through our programmes.
One of the achievements that makes us especially proud is our scholarship initiative for disadvantaged young people. Each year, we reserve spaces for students from low-income families who demonstrate exceptional commitment but cannot afford tuition fees. Several scholarship recipients have since become business owners, teachers, accountants, and community leaders who now support the next generation of learners. Their success reminds us that education creates opportunities whose impact extends far beyond individual careers.
Despite this progress, demand for our programmes has grown beyond what our current facilities can comfortably support. Classrooms frequently reach maximum capacity, evening sessions are fully booked weeks in advance, and businesses increasingly request customised corporate training programmes that we struggle to accommodate. We have also received enquiries from surrounding communities asking us to introduce new technical and digital courses, but our available space and equipment simply cannot support further expansion.
Many of our computers were purchased when the academy first opened and now struggle to run modern educational software efficiently. Students often need to share equipment during practical lessons, reducing valuable hands-on learning time. Limited classroom space also prevents us from introducing specialist training in graphic design, data analysis, software applications, digital entrepreneurship, and other high-demand skills increasingly requested by employers throughout the region.
Over the past year, we have worked closely with education consultants, curriculum developers, employers, and industry partners to develop an expansion strategy that addresses these challenges. Rather than opening multiple locations immediately, we intend to strengthen our main campus by expanding classrooms, upgrading learning technology, and introducing new career-focused training programmes aligned with current labour market needs.
We are seeking $1,680,000 to expand EduBridge Skills Academy, modernise our learning facilities, and increase access to practical education for students throughout Zimbabwe. Every dollar raised through this campaign will be invested directly into improving educational quality, expanding training capacity, and preparing more people for meaningful careers and successful businesses.
The funds raised through this campaign will be used for the following:
Construct additional classrooms, practical training laboratories, collaborative learning spaces, and student resource centres to accommodate growing enrolment.
Purchase modern desktop computers, laptops, projectors, interactive teaching equipment, networking infrastructure, and licensed educational software that supports practical instruction.
Develop new training programmes in digital business, office technology, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, customer experience, and professional communication.
Recruit additional instructors, career advisers, student support officers, curriculum specialists, and technical support staff to maintain high teaching standards.
Expand scholarship opportunities for talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds who would otherwise be unable to access quality vocational education.
Create partnerships with employers that provide internships, workplace experience, guest lectures, and graduate recruitment opportunities for our students.
Upgrade our digital learning platform so students can continue accessing learning materials, assignments, and recorded lessons outside the classroom.
The impact of this expansion reaches far beyond our campus. Every additional student who gains practical skills becomes better prepared to contribute to businesses, public institutions, and communities throughout Zimbabwe. Employers benefit from a stronger workforce, entrepreneurs gain the knowledge required to build sustainable businesses, and families experience improved economic opportunities through education. By investing in skills development today, we help strengthen the country's future workforce for many years to come.
We envision EduBridge Skills Academy becoming one of Zimbabwe's leading vocational education providers by combining practical teaching, modern technology, experienced instructors, and strong industry partnerships. Our success will never be measured only by student enrolment, but by the number of graduates who build meaningful careers, create employment for others, and contribute positively to society.
Looking back, it is difficult to believe that this journey started with two rented classrooms and a handful of determined students. Every graduate, every instructor, every employer, and every supporter has helped shape the academy into what it is today. While we are proud of our progress, we know there are thousands more young people still waiting for opportunities to develop the skills that can change their lives.
Your support for this campaign represents much more than an investment in classrooms and computers. You are investing in education, opportunity, economic development, entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, and a future where practical skills open doors for thousands of ambitious individuals. Together, we can help more people build careers, strengthen businesses, and create lasting positive change throughout our communities.
On behalf of our instructors, students, graduates, industry partners, employees, and families, thank you for taking the time to read our story. We sincerely appreciate your encouragement, your confidence, and your support. We would be honoured to have you become part of the next chapter in the journey of EduBridge Skills Academy.
