Every graduation season, we celebrate thousands of young people completing their studies, yet many continue searching for employment months or even years later. During one career workshop, we asked participants what they believed was preventing them from securing jobs. The most common answer was not a lack of determination—it was a lack of practical, industry-relevant skills. Several employers who attended the same event shared a similar concern. They received hundreds of applications for every vacancy, but many applicants lacked experience using the digital tools, software platforms, and workplace technologies required in today's economy. That conversation inspired us to rethink what modern education should look like.

BrightPath Skills Academy was established to bridge the gap between traditional education and the practical skills employers expect in the modern workplace. Our academy delivers professional training in software applications, digital marketing, business administration, coding fundamentals, graphic design, data analysis, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, project management, customer service, and workplace communication. Every programme combines classroom instruction with practical projects, industry mentorship, and career preparation to ensure graduates leave with skills they can immediately apply in real working environments.

My name is Nomsa Khumalo, and before establishing BrightPath Skills Academy, I spent more than twelve years working in corporate training and human resource development. Throughout my career, I interviewed hundreds of job seekers who possessed academic qualifications but lacked practical workplace experience. At the same time, employers repeatedly expressed frustration about the shortage of candidates with digital skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional communication. These experiences convinced me that there was a growing need for a training institution focused not only on knowledge, but also on employability.

Our academy began by renting classrooms on weekends while offering short professional development courses for graduates and working professionals. Every class reinforced the same lesson: students wanted practical instruction delivered by experienced professionals who understood industry expectations. We continuously refined our curriculum based on employer feedback, ensuring our programmes remained relevant to changing labour market demands rather than relying solely on traditional teaching methods.

Today, BrightPath Skills Academy has trained aspiring entrepreneurs, recent graduates, career changers, small business owners, and corporate employees seeking to upgrade their professional skills. Many former students have secured employment, launched successful businesses, earned promotions, or transitioned into entirely new careers after completing our programmes. Their success stories continue motivating our instructors to deliver education that creates measurable real-world impact rather than simply awarding certificates.

One of our proudest achievements has been supporting young people from underserved communities through subsidised training programmes and career mentorship initiatives. We have partnered with local organisations to provide scholarships, career guidance sessions, interview preparation workshops, and digital literacy training that help students compete more confidently in today's job market. Watching students secure their first professional opportunities remains one of the most rewarding aspects of our work.

Demand for practical digital skills training continues increasing, but our current facilities restrict the number of students we can enrol. Many of our courses require modern computer laboratories, interactive presentation systems, reliable internet connectivity, and specialised software that our existing equipment cannot fully support. We also intend to introduce additional programmes in cybersecurity, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, software development, and advanced business technology, all of which require significant investment in modern educational equipment.

Expanding our learning environment will allow us to increase student capacity, improve learning outcomes, strengthen practical instruction, and introduce industry-standard technology that better prepares graduates for employment. Investing in equipment today will directly improve the quality of education delivered for many years to come.

After consulting educators, technology specialists, employers, curriculum developers, and workforce development professionals, we developed a carefully planned equipment investment strategy designed to maximise educational impact while supporting long-term institutional growth. Our focus is on creating modern learning spaces where students develop confidence through hands-on experience rather than theory alone.

We are seeking R6,420,000 to purchase modern educational equipment that will significantly strengthen BrightPath Skills Academy's ability to prepare students for successful careers in today's digital economy. Every rand raised through this campaign will be invested directly into classroom technology, computer laboratories, specialised training equipment, and educational resources that improve learning outcomes for thousands of future students.

The funds raised through this campaign will be used for the following:

• Purchase modern desktop computers, laptops, networking equipment, servers, interactive smart boards, digital projectors, and classroom presentation systems that support practical technology training.

• Establish specialised computer laboratories equipped with industry-standard software for programming, graphic design, business analytics, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital marketing education.

• Upgrade internet infrastructure, cloud-based learning platforms, backup power systems, and digital classroom technologies that create reliable, uninterrupted learning experiences.

• Develop multimedia production facilities where students can gain practical experience in content creation, video editing, podcast production, online learning, and digital communications.

• Expand career development services by creating interview preparation rooms, collaborative learning spaces, innovation laboratories, and entrepreneurship incubation facilities that support student success.

• Recruit additional technical instructors and laboratory coordinators who will provide specialised support across advanced digital training programmes.

• Increase scholarship opportunities by expanding training capacity, allowing more young people and aspiring entrepreneurs to access affordable, high-quality professional education.

The impact of this investment extends far beyond our classrooms. Every graduate who gains practical digital skills becomes better prepared for employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong career growth. Stronger workforce development benefits employers, strengthens economic productivity, supports innovation, and creates opportunities for individuals who may otherwise struggle to access quality professional training.
